have members of congress reacting to this split and the energy is on that 31% repeal it side. you know, people that have it don't feel a threat that it's going to be taken away or anything. so i think a lot of, you know, in an election year as you go in now positioning for 2014 not just on this, but on the budget, on other things your going to see, you know, people gravitating, politicians gravitating to where they think the energy is. i don't think it's going to be much of an issue in 2014, though, and here's why, jon. if you're a republican and you ran in 2012 saying if you elect me and i'll repeal it, the end of 2014 you say reelect me, and i'll repeal it. there are going to be people out there saying, well, that's what you told us last time, and you didn't get it done. so i think it's going to have less energy as a divisive sort of wedge b issue in 2014. i could be wrong, but that's just my gut right now. jon: but there are 33 states that have refused to set up those exchanges. that means the federal government is going to have to step in and do the job in those 33 states. that's g
with governments and across the industry so we can all produce energy more safely. i want you to know, there's another commitment bp takes just as seriously: our commitment to america. bp supports nearly two-hundred-fifty thousand jobs in communities across the country. we hired three thousand people just last year. bp invests more in america than in any other country. in fact, over the last five years, no other energy company has invested more in the us than bp. we're working to fuel america for generations to come. today, our commitment to the gulf, and to america, has never been stronger. >>> some surprising comments about same-sex marriage from one of the leading voices, a leading voice, in the republican party. joining us now to talk about that and much, much more in our strategy session, two cnn contributors, democratic strategist paul begala and anna navarro. first, guys, i want to start with these comments that really raised eyebrows over the weekend. republican separate gist conservative karl rove saying surprising stuff about same-sex marriage on abc's "this week." listen. >> karl
oil companies, blame taxes, one of the biggest factors when it comes to putting energy in our car. instead of more taxes and more taxes, why not try a tiny bit of freedom and privatize some of the roads. it's done all over europe. that way the costs are borne by the people who use the facility, not sent to washington to hand out to their constituents. >> what do you think, wayne? >> i think it's a great idea. i'm not against this tax. i think a 1-cent tax that actually goes into a highway trust fund, the key word is trust, so it won't get you know, watered out some where. >> the highway trust fund is going broke in two years. you want to keep feeding that beast? >> no. january a than, if you run it on a budget it won't be. i said i'm for it if it's a trust fund meaning there is a budget. >> let me -- >> let me finish. let me make a point about defazio. he raised this in conjunction with job creation. it has nothing to do with job creation. if he wants to talk about job creation talk about that but don't talk about a tax on highways as part of a job creation bill. that's dumb. >> l

is obviously running for president and wants to capture the energy getting up there and saying totally untrue, to be sure -- on social issues. on marriage and on abortion, the two things he referenced without data. >> basically, the republican strategy when they talked about the vote in the past has been oh, well, they're naturally conservative. >> don't they go to church a lot? >> it's a culturally conservative and then now more recently, immigration. the one policy point this really addressed was immigration. it remains to be scene how far the republican party's going to be made to go, but fine, you've addressed immigration. you still have this basic problem where you're perceived as the party slanted towards the super wealthy. and these are the issues that ron brownstein's term is the coalition of the acsendent. this is the heart of the obama coalition. and they care about these issues and the republican party hasn't said anything about them. >> you will know that the republican party is moving along when they start to say if we are against health reform, that's going the hurt us with lati
to this issue. i believe that palestinians will prosper and can channel their extraordinary energies and entrepreneurship in positive ways. the entire region will be healthier with a resolution, so i'm going to keep on making that argument. and i will admit that frankly sometimes it would be easier not to make the argument and to avoid the question precisely because it's hard. that's not the approach that i've tried to take, and there probably have been times what i've made statements about what i think needs to happen, the war press, it may be interpreted in ways that get israelis nervous just like there are folks back home who sometimes get nervous about areas they aren't sure where i stand on things. that's why i like the opportunity to talk directly 0 to you guys, hopefully you'll show the live film as opposed to the edited investigation. you have four questions. >> i think there's a misunderstanding about time. if iran decides to go for a nuclear weapon, to actually manufacture the weapon, then it probably -- then it will take them about a year. i think that's correct. they coul

in suburbs to head to the cities. last week the energy department released a series of reports that touted a new strategy for cutting back on carbon dioxide emissions. the idea to make all federal funding conditional on adherence to the smart growth principles. let's say the federal government is thinking of funding a new school or a new highway. well, if this idea goes through, the government would say, let's look at the population densely. a high population densely we'll give you federal money. if you don't you're not going to get the money and that would start challennnelling awa from the suburbs and into the city. and redistributing the wealth from the suburbs into the city. >> megyn: this was an actual proposal put forward? >> well, a report came out called "transportation energy futures" and floated this, at this stage a trial balloon, i think you would say. but a similar proposal according to a news report, that the obama administration already decided on and that is that the obama administration for the first time is going to tell every agency in the federal government to consider
or energy sort of demonizing one political party using the bully pulpit. president obama talks about republicans in the house or john boehner's party or that kind of thing more than any other president that i can remember. is this why, pause he's looking -- because he's looking toward those 2014 midterm elections? >> yeah. president obama, you can see coming out of his re-election which was a strong victory, continued to campaign for the fiscal cliff in november and december, then against the sequester early part of this year. he likes a foil. the problem for president obama is if he can't accomplish this, as i've said would be an unprecedented feat, then he's stuck with probably a duh minished senate -- diminished senate majority of democrats, maybe they even lose it to republicans, and a republican house. and then does he have a legacy? i would argue the only path to a legacy is through the fiscal hole now, and that would open up his ability to actually maybe win some seats for democrats who helped with the compromise and move on to clean fights on energy and education, immigration
